An Afternoon at Gillman Barracks

Chanced upon Creamier’s newly opened 2nd outlet at Gilman Barracks after an erroneous Google Map input led me to Timbre @ Gillman [not interested] instead of Timbre+ at One-North. Was pretty excited as it has been a long time since I set paws on those waffles.


Best waffles & ice cream in Singapore, period.

Before having our desert fix however, we decided to check out the neighbouring European restaurant – Masons, where we had 1-for-1 deals with the Entertainer app(which was part of the reason why we chose to stick around the area).

Mason’s Crab Pasta

We ordered the Enzo{peking duck pizza topped with fresh Japanese cucumbers and spring onions} and the Crab Pasta {handmade verve linguine with tomato vodka crab or chilli crab sauce if you so please}.  The food was not too bad though there are better renditions of these dishes elsewhere (cues: Peking Duck pizza at Timbre and Crab Linguine at Marmalade Pantry). I wouldn’t choose to head back there again for a full priced ala-carte but it was definitely worth it with the Entertainer app. Our total bill worked out to be $33. Their Executive Set Lunches do seem decently priced too.

Mason’s Enzo

The other highlight of Masons was the colonial feel that the owners painstakingly recreated inside the conservation building dating back to 1935. Checkered tiled floors and heavy wood dining furniture – pretty stylish and hard to come by in modern day Singapore.

Creamier was just next door to Masons and I must say their 2nd outlet is way more chic than the original one at Toa Payoh. It features a small indoor air-conditioned dining area that could probably take 20 at max and long snaking queues are definitely a shared feature that both outlets have. J picked out the flavours and we had the Earl Grey Lavendar + Pistachio ice cream with 2 square waffles (had the exact same combi the last i was at the Toa Payoh branch). Seems like the newest premium flavours are: Pomegranate Yoghurt and Macadamia Tropicana – definitely gonna be more adventurous next time!

Its nice to see these young gastro-entrepreneurs thriving and doing well in Singapore, occupying forgotten corners of the island and revitalising the area while at it.

Was a nice way to end our short visit at Gillman on this oven-like-comatose-inducing Sunday afternoon.

and oh, parking is free on Sundays/PHs – yay to that!
