Honey Pork Belly

Impromptu dinner at home today got me thinking hard about what I could whip up pronto with ready ingredients in the fridge. Thank God for Nami, I managed to turn 2 nice cuts of pork belly into a simple yummy dish within 15 minutes (sans time for them to defrost).

Inspired by: Just One Cook Book’s Honey Pork Belly (i modified the recipe a little)

Ingredients:

  • 350 pork belly (sliced)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic (diced)
  • 3 thin ginger slices
  • 1 stalk spring onion

Method:

  1. Coat the pork belly with 1 tsp of flour and 1tsp of sugar (a tip from mum. apparently it helps to tenderize the meat)
  2. Fry the pork belly on high heat till it is nicely browned on both sides
  3. Remove pork belly and dish it out onto a plate
  4. Throw in the garlic and ginger into the remaining fat/oil/lard, fry them till they turn brown
  5. Re-introduce the cooked pork belly and stir-fry it with the garlic/ginger for 1 minute
  6. Mix the liquids together in a small dish and pour it in to the pan
  7. Gently stir the meat with the sauce
  8. Throw in broadly sliced spring onions
  9. Toss it for a few seconds and make sure the meat is well glazed
  10. Dish it out, sprinkle some sesame seed over and its ready to go
